The library offers notary services with the following guidelines:

  1. Witnesses: Patrons must bring their own witness(es) to the notary service. Library staff and other patrons are not permitted to serve as witnesses.
  2. Identification: Patrons must present a valid photo ID before notarization. Acceptable forms of ID include:
    • State-issued driver's license
    • State-issued identification card
    • Military ID
    • U.S. passport
    • State, county, or local government ID
  3. Non-Notarizable Documents: The following documents cannot be notarized at the library:
    • Court or vital records (birth, death, marriage, divorce, single status)
    • Marriage records issued by a Virginia Circuit Court (must contain a Certification of Official Record/Triple Seal and include the date, signature, and printed name of the (Deputy) Clerk of Court)
    • Virginia-issued circuit court documents (e.g., divorce decree, name change, single status)
    • State Corporation Commission documents from another state or country
